Dear Therapist: Couples & Connection
This is another practical tool I like to use with couples: If you find that the two aren't connecting with each other or talking about "the issue," and instead using you solely as the conduit for their "miscommunication problems," try having them turn toward each other, look each other in the eyes, and be touching in some way. The ability to connect is often lost in relationships where strain is apparent. And a literal physical connection could be an easier way in to each others' emotional spaces than through the classic armchair therapy.
